Every February we all look forward to the first pilgrimage of the year which takes place during the first weekend of the month. This is when the RSOCA drive down to Melbourne from Sydney in an ever-growing convoy to attend the Small Ford Sunday show held by the Victorian RSOC crew.
This year we had 11 cars in total ranging from the new RS Focus to the RS Sierra plus a few ‘ring ins’. We even had two cars make the trip down from QLD. We all set off on the Friday at lunchtime from Sydney arriving at Gundagai (half way) that evening, where we all got together for a BBQ dinner, a few(?) drinks and a good old yarn. It was a pretty late night considering we had to be up early the next day! We were probably all excited to be hitting the road again!
Despite the late night we were all up bright and early on the Saturday morning ready to make tracks – destination Melbourne! Along the way we even managed to make a pit stop in Albury, spending an hour at the RS Shop to have a look at a few more RS’s on display.
We finally made it to Melbourne at 4pm that afternoon joined by a few more small Fords which turned up from Sydney from the Small Ford Car club. We enjoyed dinner and a few (?) more drinks and were pleased to welcome Lauren and her fellow XR5ers to the party. Another great night was had by all which added to the atmosphere. Every year it gets better and better and this year certainly confirmed that.
The show gates opened at 9am the next day and in we all went after giving the cars a good clean from bugs and birds etc. We displayed our cars in their appropriate areas and mingled with some great like-minded people. We counted 180 plus cars in attendance of all makes, models and colours. Unfortunately the weather was a bit blowy which meant an early end to the day but this only resulted in the previous night’s festivities continuing at the hotel.
Overall a great time was had by all before we each headed home in our respective directions with no incidents (thankfully). We all arrived home safely and are already looking forward to the next planned outing.
